Thing 9 - Read about wikis

Wikis are a really useful collaborative tool for information sharing.

A tool for listing instructions and help files that a number of staff can edit and maintain. (I wonder if we could use them to manage our library LINS?)

The other nice feature that I am impressed with is the ability of linking titles of resources (eg book club) to live catalogue records to check holdings and availability.

Overall a very useful tool.

Hi Colin,

Great idea about wikifying the LINs!

Your next challenge - can you include a script in the opac to generate a permalink for each record? At the moment students and teachers can't do basic things like bookmark an item or bookmark a search.

Permalinks would make it easy for anyone to link to the library catalogue records for items and searches, and so make it easy to include them in wikis, blog posts, reading lists, etc.

At the moment probably only a handful of library staff know how to do this, and we have to do it manually.
